Fair Trade bags made by the Dougla Prieta Women’s Sewing Cooperative in Agua Prieta, Sonora. Sewn in support of the Kino Border Initiative’s work in Nogales, Sonora.
Every day, migrants are deported from the US to Nogales, Sonora, with little more than the clothes on their backs. What belongings they have are often carried in plastic or paper bags issued by the detention centers in which they have been held.
This project supplies bags, at no cost, to the Missionary Sisters of the Eucharist to distribute among the people they serve at the KBI Comedor in Nogales. All proceeds from the sale of these bags are returned to the Cooperative, financing the sewing of more bags which are donated to the Kino Border Initiative. Proceeds also enable the Coop to pay for new industrial sewing machines purchased through a micro-credit loan.
Each bag you purchase at $20 enables us to donate two bags to the KBI.
